Capabilities / Feasibility and market studies

Prove the demand.
Then size the plant.

A conditional commercial case connects buyer evidence, delivery capability and cash exposure before committing to a factory.

Find the decisionProcedural visualisation. Schematic, not a facility.
Select a decision lens

The decision lens

Read demand through the condition that could break it.

Market size is a starting boundary. A feasible operation needs a product somebody will accept, a delivery route it can execute and a cash cycle it can support.

Use the study lens to see which evidence belongs in each part of the case. The contour field is a conceptual drawing, not a surveyed map or a demand forecast.

Illustrative cotton-belt study geometry. Isolines represent the selected decision lens, not observed demand intensity or elevation.

Keep the source boundary

National scale does not establish factory demand.

Select a basis

Select a basis to see what each figure measures and where it stops. Each one is a different material or unit, and none of them is factory demand.

Base bed · crop and fibre shareThe programme annex records about 340,000 tonnes of Cameroon seed cotton for 2024. Separately, it reports the raw-export and local-processing shares for cotton fibre. Those material bases differ. A feasibility case needs the conversion, quality, availability and contract conditions before it can connect a national crop figure to a factory’s feedstock plan.

340,000 t

approximately, seed cotton reported for 2024

Boundary: a national crop total. It sits two conversions away from a factory.

R01, programme-annex historical figure. This is seed cotton, not lint, yarn, fabric or saleable garments. No current availability is implied.

Active source

5%

approximately, cotton fibre reported processed locally; about 95% exported raw

Boundary: a share of fibre. It does not name a buyer, a margin or a site.

R06, programme-annex figure on cotton fibre, a different material basis from seed cotton. The 50 percent local-processing aim for 2030 (R07) is a policy target, not a result.

Active source

US$37.3 bn

approximately, Africa textile market estimate for 2025

Boundary: a continental estimate in money, not in tonnes. It cannot be joined to the crop.

R24, market-research estimate. It covers a whole continent and all textiles, so it does not specify what one garment maker could sell. Different unit, not additive with the tonnes.

no figure is claimed on this page

Boundary: the number the study exists to produce. Until it is evidenced, it stays blank.

The step from seed cotton to fibre, and from fibre to a factory’s quality-specific feedstock, is an output of the study. Quality, availability and contract conditions decide it.

No source: no figure is claimed

Market column · own datumThe annex also carries a market-research estimate of the African textile market at about US$37.3 billion in 2025. A continent-wide estimate does not specify the portion available to a particular garment maker. Retain its publisher, date and definition, then work towards product-level buyer evidence. Do not convert a broad market headline into assumed factory revenue.

The design sequence

Let each commercial test change the design.

A study should narrow uncertainty in an order that protects the decision. Start with the proposition, test the route that makes it deliverable, then expose the conditions that change the result.

The drawing responds to each step; it is a conceptual study field.

Define · Step 1 of 3

Locate a specific requirement.

Begin with a product and a buyer class. Record acceptable quality, order pattern and the evidence behind willingness to buy. Keep untested demand in a separate scenario, so it cannot silently become the base case.

Connect · Step 2 of 3

Trace the fulfilment route.

Join sourcing, conversion, inspection and delivery. Ask where lead time, quality or infrastructure could invalidate the promise. Revise the operating model when the route fails, rather than preserving the sales assumption and hiding the constraint.

Test · Step 3 of 3

Test the decision boundary.

Change utilisation, price, payment terms and input exposure across explicit cases. Identify which condition changes a proceed decision into a revise or stop decision. Keep the unresolved condition beside the conclusion.

Step 1 of 3 · Requirement · Buyer pin and acceptance ring. The requirement fixes where the study starts.

Warp and Signal

A conditional answer is a useful answer.

A market exists only for what you can deliver.

Requirement and buyerA feasibility study earns its place when it explains why a proposal could work and what would make it fail. The output should preserve the alternatives considered and the evidence that separates them. A cautious condition is more actionable than an optimistic headline with an invisible denominator.

Route and lead timeMarket access, product acceptance and commercial demand are separate questions. A preference or policy ambition does not guarantee a sale. Check the applicable product classification, origin evidence and implementation with qualified advisers when a trade route becomes material to the decision. The study remains strategic analysis, not a customs ruling.

Buyer requirement: the ring that fixes where the study starts

A reviewable scope

Make the commercial argument traceable.

The work should connect the narrative to a reviewable assumption register and an operating case. Someone who did not write the study should be able to follow a headline back to its source, understand the unit and see the consequence of changing the input.

SourceThe unanswered question and the evidence needed

AssumptionWhat would change the conclusion, and by when

Follow the demand headline: it rests on one product and one buyer class, a dated source and a stated kind of evidence. Change the buyer class and the headline has to be re-earned. Open register: demand and competition. Untested rows stay outside the base case.

Conditions that change the answer

Resolve the assumptions that carry the conclusion.

The value of a study is concentrated in the assumptions that can change the decision. Preserve uncertainty where evidence is weak, and direct the next investigation towards the condition with the greatest practical consequence.

The local-processing ambition recorded in the programme is a policy direction. It does not identify a customer, establish a procurement contract or demonstrate profitable utilisation. Demand evidence must stand on its own.

Textiles, apparel, footwear and online sales describe different boundaries. Check the scope before comparing estimates or adding categories. Different publishers may measure different markets, even when their titles sound similar.

Proximity to cotton may trade against buyer access, skills, utilities or distribution. Compare complete routes rather than choosing a site on a single attractive attribute. Keep unverified location inputs labelled.

Condition A, still open: Revise. Buyer commitment carries the most influence.

Illustrative sensitivity: bars show ordinal influence for explanation only, not computed results. A sensitivity chart is useful only when the alternatives it explores are plausible. Not investment, legal or tax advice. Current trade terms require a dated review with the competent authorities and qualified advisers.

The next controlled step

Choose the contour that needs evidence.

A useful next step is a bounded investigation. Select the unresolved question and read the evidence requirement. Keep it with the case so the study can be revised when new information arrives.
