A reference should lead somewhere inspectable. Keep the publisher, the passage and the limits of the record together.

A recorded domain is a research lead.

The locations below are transcribed from the programme annex. They are not represented as articles opened or independently verified for this website.

One provenance chain, shown with record R14

Preserve that chain while seeking the original source. Do not replace it with a different article because the headline appears similar.

The original programme was prepared 31 January 2024; later refreshes are flagged for 2026. A refresh flag is annex metadata, not evidence that this build re-opened the source or checked a current figure.

Provenance travels with every reference.

Point at a row, or scroll it into the middle of the screen, and its publisher lights on the thread map. Every record is shown in full.

As recorded: all four references are missing, so the thread stays cut.

The source annex does not supply these 4 reference records. No supporting article link or finding is published for them here.

Re-sourcing must establish a publisher, date and exact supporting passage before any associated assertion is used. Until then the thread stays cut, and a missing reference is shown as missing.

The control above is an illustrative status board. It records nothing and re-sources nothing.

The record resumes at R23.

Ten more records carry the same qualification: annex attribution, with article verification unconfirmed. The thread map on the right picks the cut up at R23 and lights each group as it scrolls in.

From a thread to a receipt

Make the source check reproducible.

Scroll the four steps, or jump to one with the rail. Each step redraws the pinned diagram.

Claim → reference idReference id → recorded publisher locationPublisher → dated supporting passagePassage → reviewable verification receipt

Illustrative diagram of the checking steps. It is not a completed source receipt.

  1. 01 / Reference

    Begin with the claim identifier.

The reference id is a stable connection between a sentence and its annex record. It makes a figure traceable within this site, but does not by itself identify an article, edition or exact supporting passage. Start with the recorded finding and keep its qualification.

  2. 02 / Publisher

    Follow the recorded location.

The annex often supplies a publisher domain rather than an article URL. Opening a publisher location is the start of research. Locate the original document and confirm its title, publication date, scope and relevant passage before treating the link as fresh verification.

  3. 03 / Passage

Match the sentence to the evidence.

Read the source in context. Check whether it reports an observation, estimate, forecast, target or a third party’s statement. Preserve the exact supporting passage in the research record, with enough context to understand the unit and boundary.

  4. 04 / Receipt

    Record what was actually checked.

A completed verification receipt names the URL, publisher, source date, access date and supporting passage. Where access is unavailable or the article cannot be found, keep that failure visible. A remembered domain or search snippet cannot fill the gap.

A credible chain can contain a gap

Show what the record cannot establish.

A location is a starting point. The dated passage carries the evidence.

A source can disappear, move behind access controls or change its wording. Those conditions affect what a reviewer can reproduce. Preserve the title, publication date and supporting passage in the research record, with lawful access and any relevant restrictions.

If a secondary report attributes a figure to another organisation, inspect the original where possible. Keep the attribution visible when the original cannot be found. The source chain should tell a reader which organisation measured, estimated or merely reported the number.

No publisher listed here is represented as a GFT client, partner, endorser or certifier. Its appearance records a source attribution in the programme annex.

Read beyond the publisher name

Authority does not remove the boundary.

Choose a boundary and operate its instrument. The state stays visible on the stage.

Keep the time window.

An article can be newly published while describing an older observation. A forecast can later be superseded by an estimate. Record the period measured as well as the publication date, and avoid presenting an archived finding as a current operating fact.

Two years on: check whether a later estimate has replaced it.

Check what was counted.

A textile market and an apparel market may not cover the same products. Regional figures may not describe Cameroon. A source can be reputable and still answer a different question. Keep the definition intact when comparing reports or feeding a model.

Count toggle: what the figure counted
May count fibre, yarn and fabric. Check whether garments are in or out before comparing it with another report.

Carry a checkable receipt.

Save the source location and the passage needed for review, rather than a detached numeral. Where licensing, access or legal interpretation matters, obtain the appropriate review. A citation is evidence of attribution; it is not a guarantee of reuse rights or legal applicability.

What the reader carries away
A detached numeral cannot be reviewed. Nobody can tell where it came from, what it counted or when it applied.

Connect provenance to use

Keep research, modelling and operating proof distinct.

RESEARCH: RECORDED FINDINGS AND THEIR SOURCESMODELLING: DERIVED AND ILLUSTRATIVE CALCULATIONOPERATING PROOF: MEASURED IN A REAL FACTORYDECISIONNOT IN THIS ANNEX: PILOT, QUOTATION, LOCAL MEASUREMENT
Show the threads

The fact base shows the actual recorded findings. The method explains how a sourced sentence differs from a derived calculation or an illustrative scenario. The research library develops the argument around those records, while the tools expose assumptions through explicit controls.

A strong decision may require evidence beyond this annex: a current regulation, supplier quotation, local measurement or bounded pilot. Identify that requirement before treating the source register as a finished diligence pack. These materials are not investment, legal or tax advice.
