GFT's Cameroon textile programme comprises a feasibility study, a performance-management system design and a digital strategy. With source refreshes flagged in 2026, it is a body of prepared work, not a claim to own or operate a factory.
Procedural schematic. The lenses describe prepared programme work.
Should the operation proceed, and under which conditions?
The commercial question is tested against material supply, demand, competition, logistics, labour, infrastructure and unit economics. A favourable answer remains conditional until its evidence clears.
Output: A dated baseline, an assumptions register, decision options and conditions precedent.
Status: prepared programme method, not an implemented system.
Performance-management system
Which measures, owners and routines make the operation controllable?
The operating system turns an observation into a response. Measures stay few enough to manage, close enough to the work to be useful and clear enough to survive a shift handover.
Status: prepared programme method, not an implemented system.
Digital strategy
Which technologies are ready, and what do they require?
Digital choices follow the operating routine. Capture, validation, storage and analysis are designed for real power, connectivity and team constraints before more complex applications are considered.
Output: A proportionate architecture, a use-case sequence and explicit data and infrastructure requirements.
Status: prepared programme method, not an implemented system.
Why the work matters
Theprocessinggapmakesthepurposeconcrete.
The programme examined a simple industrial question: what would it take to transform more cotton fibre where it is grown, while building an operation able to measure its own performance?
In the programme evidence annex, about 95 percent of Cameroon's cotton fibre was reported as exported raw. The annex was prepared in January 2024. The source date for the processing split is unavailable, and the record was not refreshed in 2026.
Programme annex context. Not a current verified baseline. Source R06, programme annex, January 2024. Split date unavailable.
5% Cotton fibre processed locally, approximately
The same annex reports about 5 percent processed locally. It describes the national position in the annex. It is not a measure of any GFT operation, because the known programme is prepared work, not a plant.
Programme annex context. Processing share, not GFT output. Source R06, programme annex, January 2024. Split date unavailable.
50% Local-processing policy target by 2030
A national policy target of 50 percent local processing by 2030 is restated in the policy record. It marks the distance the engineering work is asked to consider. It is a target, not installed capacity and not a GFT forecast.

Illustrative Intermediate notch, between the two sourced figures
Between the two sourced figures, each notch is five percent of the fibre. The intermediate positions are illustrative, a straight scrub from the annex position to the policy target. They are not a forecast and not GFT output.
Illustrative positions. Sources R06 and R07 at the two ends only.
Scope note: what the gap does and does not show
The gap is not proof that any particular venture will succeed. It defines a field of engineering work: material supply, product requirements, operating discipline, skills, logistics, infrastructure and finance must all clear their own tests. GFT's role in the known programme was to connect those questions rather than to promise a predetermined answer.
Sustainability as an account
Aresourceclaimneedsadenominatorandaboundary.
Water, energy, material and waste become manageable when they are attached to accepted production and a stated process boundary. A lower total can hide a worse unit result, and a better unit result can hide a larger operation.

Illustrative values, not data and not a GFT result. Measurement commitments, not achieved reductions.
Public truth, private work
Evidencecanbeopenwithoutexposingtheclient.
GFT's public explanation separates the method, the public-source context and the confidential material that informed the programme. Those categories answer different questions and should not be blurred.
WithheldOpen
OpenWithheld
Words right of the line are withheld. The client stratum stays barred at every position.
Choose a claim: it lights its stratum
Sector figures carry evidence identifiers, dates and qualifications. A source-domain record is not represented as an independently opened article when it has not been opened.
A model keeps its formula, units and denominator visible. Derived values are not promoted to observations, and illustrative inputs remain labelled where the reader sees them.
The feasibility study, performance-system design and digital strategy are described as prepared work. They are not recast as built factories, implemented platforms or measured savings.
The public site does not name the programme client, reveal engagement identifiers or publish the source deliverables. Public-source figures and general method remain available for scrutiny.
Engineering stance
Startwiththeproductionsystem,nottheslogan.
A sustainability-oriented factory is not defined by its visual identity or by a single technology. It is defined by the physical operation, the decisions that guide it and the evidence those decisions leave behind.
Choose a thread crossing
Crossing 1 of 3
Material sets the physical boundary.
Fibre characteristics, product form, process yield and accepted output establish what the operation must do. The analysis begins there, before a dashboard or an organisational chart.
Crossing 2 of 3
The operating model makes the work repeatable.
Flow, staffing, supervision, maintenance, quality and review routines turn a process concept into work a team can control. Unit economics remains attached to those operating assumptions.
Crossing 3 of 3
Evidence makes improvement possible.
A useful record has a definition, a time boundary and an owner. It lets the team distinguish a loss from a reporting artefact and a real correction from a favourable week.

Procedural schematic, not a facility
01 Feasibility study
Draw the decision boundary first.
The study tests the material base, demand, trade context, competition, site and logistics, workforce, infrastructure, unit economics and risk. Its answer is conditional. An assumption that cannot support the decision must remain visible, and a condition precedent must not be rewritten as an achievement.
Output: options, assumptions and conditions for a responsible go, adapt or stop decision.
02 Performance-management system
Turn the boundary into a working routine.
The performance-system design specifies what the team records, who owns each measure and how a review leads to action. It connects line-level observations to daily, weekly and monthly decisions. The aim is not more indicators. It is a small set of measures with clear denominators, ownership and escalation.
Output: definitions, source records, review cadence and corrective-action paths.
03 Digital strategy
Carry the record without breaking its meaning.
The digital strategy maps collection, validation, storage and analysis to the operating routine. Proven, low-data applications come before history-dependent models. Architecture accounts for intermittent power, variable connectivity and the team available to maintain it. Digital value is assessed inside the same performance system, not in a separate technology report.
Output: a sequenced architecture whose applications wait for the data and operating readiness they need.
The four layers of the record separate into the four readiness gates below.
The programme treats digital maturity as a sequence of dependable states. Each state must work before the next one is asked to carry more complexity.

Can every shift record the same thing the same way?
A disciplined manual record can be the right first system. Shared definitions, controlled identifiers and correction history matter before automation.
Gate 02 of 04 Waiting
Manage actively.
Does the record change a review?
The record must change a review. If nobody uses the signal to resolve an exception, a larger platform will only preserve the same ambiguity.
Gate 03 of 04 Waiting
Validate locally.
Does it hold on this process, with these operators?
A proven application still needs acceptance data from the actual process. Product, lighting, material, connectivity and operator conditions can change the result.
Gate 04 of 04 Waiting
Scale on evidence.
Is there usable history, a baseline and a fallback?
History-dependent forecasting and broader automation wait for usable history, a baseline comparison and a fallback the operating team can maintain.
